The “Young Barristers“have filed a lawsuit against Business Association of Georgia in the Prosecutor’s office

The “Young Barristers” have filed a lawsuit against Business Association of Georgia in the Prosecutors’ office. The case has been opened concerning possession of one million GEL received at a charity dinner held after premier of “5 days of August”. The organization published monitoring results, according to which one million GEL received at the charity dinner on June 2011 was not handed to 400 families of August war victims.

The “Young Barristers” addressed Business Association of Georgia with an official letter as well and asked to respond accordingly by May 10th 2014. However, the Business Association of Georgia not only did not respond to the issue but did not publish any kinds of documents concerning the issue on their website.

The “Young Barristers” address prosecutors’ office of Georgia demanding a legal reaction towards the emerging issues. We believe that a criminal fault, in precise signs of misappropriation and embezzlement of funds may have occurred.

The “Young Barristers” request a full study of the case by the prosecutors’ office. The prosecutors’ office must provide the following at its earliest convenience:

  1. Purpose and aim of disposing more than one million GEL received at the charity dinner after the premier of “5 Days of August”
  2. Authenticity up to 400 families of 2008 war victims who may have received the money
  3. Geographic area and the selection rule of money recipients
  4. Determination of legal liability of Business Association of Georgia concerning the purpose and aim of disposing more than one million GEL received at the charity dinner.

For your information: According to the monitoring results, official position of Business Association of Georgia who hosted the charity dinner has not been confirmed, according to which they created a full list of war victim families. The list comprised up to 400 families and each had been entitled to receiving up to 2500 GEL. The following Ministries were in no way associated with Business Association of Georgia – Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from The Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Corrections.
