Court to discuss lawsuit of the „Young Barristers” against Tamar Chergoleishvili

Organization the “Young Barristers” has filed a lawsuit against Tamar Chergoleishvili in Tbilisi City Court. The organization demands from wife of former head of National Security Council of Georgia to deny information damaging the business reputation of the organization. The court has launched the proceedings and the case will be heard by Judge Tamaz Urtmelidze.

According to the statements of founding board of the “Young Barristers”, Tamar Chegoleishvili disclaimed written proposal of the organization dated on February 6th 2014 concerning denial of statements made in public space towards the organization. Wife of the politician announced on social network “Facebook” and on TV that the “Young Barristers” fulfills orders of the governing party and named the organization as activists of “Georgian Dream”. In addition to the abovementioned, a photo was published by her, in which one of the co-founders of the organization stood on a tribune near Bidzina Ivanishvili. Tamar Chergoleishvili launched a discrediting campaign against the “Young Barristers” followed by various publicly made statements. 

Critics of Tamar Chergoleishvili towards the “Young Barristers” were a result of published research” Property declarations of politicians and their secret business interests”, which comprised information on benefits of Giga Bokeria’s business firms.

The organization remarked that Tamar Chergoleishvili deliberately misled the society concerning government of research authors and if any evidence concerning relationship of the organization with the governing party existed, it must have been published by wife of the politician.

The organization answered accusation of the defendant and stated that the photo was taken in April 21 2012 on founding congress of the “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia”, when the “Young Barristers” was not yet established and Tinatin Nibloshvili was involved in private human rights protection activities.

According to the “Young Barristers”, public statements of Tamar Chergoleishvili abuse the business reputation of the organization, corporate interests of the organization, principles of professional freedom and affects creation of trust in relation with third parties.

Therefore, professional authority of the organization cannot be realized unless public statements of the defendant are invalidated. Statements of Tamar Chergoleishvili were not comments, ideas, suppositions, evaluations. Wife of the politician deliberately spread damaging information about the organization.

The “Young Barristers” have presented important evidence in order to prove facts of the dispute. Interest of the organization at the hearing will be protected by the founding board – Archil Kaikatsishvili, Marika Arevadze and Tinatin Nibloshvili.
