Young Barristers“ – Prosecution continues investigating the case “5 days of August”

24 June, 2014

Georgian Prosecution is reviewing ccomplaint posed by “Young Barristers”, which was made against Georgian business association. The case concerns consequences from the monitoring of “Unknown million laris”, held by the organization, according to which, in June 2011, the income from charity dinner after the movie premiere “5 days of August” is not seen to be donated to the families of August, 2008 war casualties.

“Young Barristers” addressed  Georgian Prosecution on 19th of May, 2014, after the fact, that the oganiser of the charity event did not give explanations, in the given time frame, for the issues posed by the Georgian business association. At the moment, the case is reviewed by investigator of special cases – Mamuka Parulava.

As a result of monitoring, made by “Young Barristers“, no proof was found about the position of the organizer and host of the charity event – Georgian business association, according to which, they listed all the families of the August war casualties. There was total of 400 families in the list, and each of them should have gotten honorary of 2500 laris. No evidence is given about the partnership and help from Georgian business association and the charity event by next ministries – Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accomodation and Refugees of Georgia, The Ministry of Defense of Georgia, The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, on the basis of information from Ministry of Corrections of Georgia.

“Young Barristers“, during monitoring, communicated with Georgian business association, pointing out that they got the contact information about the families from governmental structures, the income from charity event was used to cover the event’s expenses and the rest million laris were fully distributed between the families of August war casualties. The organization calls the process non-transparent, during which, Georgian business association should have equally transferred one million lari to the families of 2008 August war casualties. As a result, it is still unknown which and how many families really got the help, what amount of sum was transferred, who was the one responsible for the process’s transparency and why is there unmatching rating between the Georgian ministries and the business association.

According to the statement of “Young Barristers“, there are reasonable assumptions, that charity dinner after the premiere of “5 days of August”, instead of the iniciative of Georgian business association, it was a governmental event, from which one part of the income, instead on being given to the casualties, was used for organizing the event, and the rest was invested in ex leading party’s interests.
