NGO "Young Lawyers" estimates that transparency of presidential elections held on October 27, 2013 is an opportunity for the country to start the real democratic reforms and to actively involve people in politics. The organization focuses on the voters’ freedom of expression, election administration and the election day free of violence signs.

The executive and legislative branches of government ensured democratic elections, which creates the chance for serious reforms. For the country to establish the rule of law and public governance, for the president to become the real guarantee for the implementation of human rights, while society can strengthen democratic institutions, become a participant in decision-making, increase their civil-legal awareness and active civic initiative, reinforce and protect achieved successes in democratic process.

"Young Barristers" thinks, one of the main precondition for holding a transparent presidential elections was – depoliticizing of the Georgian police and right administration by the Central Election Commission.

The organization believes that the presidential election has shown protecting the principle of legality by the institutions in the country is vital, and it should be strengthened even more in the future. It is also important to strengthen attention towards the political responsibilities so the public can fully evaluate the importance of participation in elections.

"Young Barristers" says the problems observed at the polling stations did not represent serious procedural violations, and did not affect the transparency of elections. The organization also hopes that the government will be able to improve several controversial regulations in  the Election Code before the municipal elections.

Note: "Young Barristers” observed the presidential elections in Tbilisi, in all ten districts. The organization observed over 80 polling stations throughout Tbilisi and published data of voters’ participation by 17:00. The observers did not file any violation.
