The “Young Barristers” demand removal of head of Kobuleti City Council from June 15th 2014 local self-government elections – Elguja Bagrationi.
According to the co-founder and chief-executive of the “Young Barristers” – Archil Kaikatsishvili, the implemented monitoring revealed that the head of Kobuleti City Council Elguja Bagrationi had participated in a criminal act. Based on Batumi City Court information dated on May 28th 2014, Elguja Bagrationi had been accused of violently stealing 5 cars. The appellate court considered that Elguja Bagrationi had never been accused of crimes before and pleaded guilty for the deeds, thus changed punishment of imprisonment for 3 years into 1 year. A party did not appeal the decision. Therefore, the head of Kobuleti City Court served a year in prison.
The “Young Barristers” have already addressed “United National Movement” to remove the candidate of head of Kobuleti City Council on May 31st 2014. Elguja Bagrationi represents a majority candidate of former ruling party at Daba Chaqvi region of Kobuleti Municipality. The organization asks the political council of “United National Movement” in order to protect democracy standards and offer a worthy candidate with an honest past. In addition to this, the organization remarks, that the society must not trust persons, who have been in a conflict with the law.
According to the “Young Barristers”, not only must the candidate of Elguja Bagrationi be removed from the elections, but grounds of his impeachment from a position of head of Kobuleti City Council exist as well. The organization has also addressed Kobuleti City Council, in order to show an example to the local society and dismiss the chariman of City Council. The current head of Kobuleti City Council has also received addressing of the organization, according to which he shall be dismissed on the grounds of personal announcement.
The “Young Barristers” have also been interested in amount of bonuses, salaries and travel expanses of heads of Kobuleti City Council. According to the information received, Elguja Bagrationi has spent up to 1623 GEL at business trips in 2010-2013 and received a bonus of 35.860 GEL. In total, the whole team of Kobuleti City Council received a bonus of 410, 713, 57 GEL.
