The “Young Barristers” had meeting with the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues

The organization “Young Barristers”, within the framework of the project “Institutional Dialogue with the Executive, Legislative, Judicial Authorities” had meeting with Gela Dumbadze, the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues.

During the meeting, the dialogue focused on the strategic direction on relations with Diaspora issues and rdiscussed the issues which, in relations with the diaspora, distinguishes with particular interest. Discussion focused on meetings of the Minister with the Turkish Republic and condition of the Georgian Diaspora in Turkey. Problems and the activities planned in the Georgian Diasporas. The capability to create the global community network and an online schools. In addition, the meeting focused on use of opportunities of Georgian compatriots from different countries,  interest towards the investment environment of Gerogia from compatriots and the strategy establishing business contracts. At the meeting, parties discussed on the strengthening of the Diaspora and possible the preparation of legislative proposals on the issue. Stages of the work on "Migration Code” and short-term plans of the Ministery Office.

According to the statement of Gela Dumbadze, the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues, the state pays special attention to the strengthening of the Diaspora and is currently working to form a single, stable communication network. The minister, in this direction, drew attention on the funding and the need to increase budget for Diaspora Issues from the state,  indicated the funds allocated for diaspora empowerment by the governments of different countries in the Caucasus region. According to the minister, the most important thing lacking the community in Diaspora is the dialogue with state of the and the Ministry, at this stage, make every effort to have close relationship and the necessary contacts to the Georgians abroad. The Minister pointed out that Tbilisi will host the a week of: "Diaspora Economic Forum," which will be the first opportunity to assess the commitments and challenges of signed association agreement with the European Union. Share experience of the EU member and candidate countries.

The “Young Barristers” and the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues will sign a memorandum of cooperation in the neasrest future, according to which the organization shall provide legal advocacy for the Georgian Diaspora. The organization will present the project proposals and assist the Ministry of increasing the legal awareness of Georgians living abroad.

For more information: within the project, this is the sixth meeting helb by the organization. The project started in August 2013 and it is aimed to increase public confidence towards the executive, legislative and judicial institutions, as well as to the local government, transparency of public agencies and continuity of communication with society. In addition, youth involvement in the process of public governance and establishment and development of culture of the institutional dialogue in Georgia.
