The Chief-executive of the organization “Young Barristers”, Archil Kaikatsishvili, made his first evaluation of the Riga Summit 2015 at the “Reportiori” press-club and talked about the implementation of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan on behalf of the Government.
According to Archil Kaikatsishvili, above all, it is important to correctly evaluate all the capabilities and achievements, that have been emerged in the process of Georgia’s integration with EU and in direction of the Riga Summit. It should be noted, that before the Riga Summit, Georgian society had absolutely wrong expectations and assessments, as far as the part of the society expected positive solution of the issue of visa liberalization. I think, that despite the fact, that the Riga Summit didn’t bring the desired result, yet, it contains positive messages for the Eastern Partnership countries. It has one more time stated, that European Choice of these countries remain unchanged and European Union will support these countries in their choice. A record about the continuity of the European Choice of Georgia, has been made in the Riga Summit Declaration, which is not really a clear message of the countries European perspective, however, it really cannot be considered as a result of an ineffective work, conducted by the Government of Georgia, since the Government has done it’s best to prepare for the Riga Summit 2015.
The “Young Barristers” considers, that the Government did it’s utmost to successfully carry out Visa Liberalization Action Plan. This is confirmed by the European Commission Report of May, 2015, prepared for the European Parliament and the EU Council, positively evaluating implementation of the liabilities on behalf of the Government of Georgia.
The “Young Barristers” calls the Government of Georgia for starting right information campaign in December, in connection with the upcoming meetings within the Eastern Partnership, for more public awareness and involvement,
The organization considers, that until December, the Government and various state structures should show a lot more effort to ensure, that on the one hand the society is well informed, regarding the real expectations and benefits to be resulted from the positive decision of the issue in December and on the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen domestic institutions, in order to ensure that political opposition, the Government, civil society and media, work together, making joint efforts to display all advantages of the European Choice.
