The Georgian NGO “Young Barristers” honored soldiers killed during the August war 2008

8 August, 2015

The organization “Young Barristers” joined the week of paying tribute to the soldiers killed during the  war  between  Russia and Georgia in August, 2008. The organization staff visited the Mukhatgverdi Cemetery and laid flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers.

The members of the organization honored the memory of the soldier A.B, who had got multiple injuries as a result of grenade explosion, managed to find a shelter in the bunker, but unfortunately died early in the morning on August 9, 2008.  The organization provides legal representation for the family of the soldier, helping them to establish truth linked to the circumstances of the young man’s death.  After the results of expertise was provided, based upon the inspection of the corpse, the family assumed, that some descriptions given in the Expertise conclusion  were in conflict with the physical condition of the deceased. According to the family of the soldier, the cloths on the corpse didn’t match with the cloths, the soldier was wearing at the moment of death. Expert conclusion and factual reality turned out to be different with regard of teeth arrangement as well. The broken  upper limb of the soldier is not confirmed by the expertise as well.(the X-ray confirming the break of the limb is kept in the family up to now). On February 19, 2013, the body was re-exhumed and genetic analyze was made again on the ground of Tbilisi City court decision, however yet it has not provided sufficient answers for the family to eliminate all suspects and inconsistences between the results of the expertise and existing reality. The family still believes, that the numbers of corpses have been accidentally  confused.

“Young Barristers”, along with the family has been cooperating with the Ministry of Defense  in order to explain the reasons for all these inconsistences mentioned above. We hope, that the Ministry of Defense will do everything to be helpful and  to determine all factual and legal circumstances regarding the case.
