The Georgian NGO Young Barristers participated in the Scientific Advisory Board meeting in the Supreme Court of Georgia

19 September, 2015

On September 19, 2015, Young Barristers participated in regular meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board on the issues of Criminal justice. The board has considered precedential case, important for the litigation practice. In particular, the reference of the prisoners, which argued, that the changes of July 31, made to the article 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code, didn’t improve their situation, was discussed during the meeting. The prisoners noted, that in most cases, the Court doesn’t satisfy an appeal and leaves the term of imprisonment unchanged. The second case, considered on the session, was represented by the attorney, Gia Tablishvili, which also referred to the article 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Different views and approaches to the case have been expressed during the meeting and the Supreme Court will take them into account in its further decision. The meeting was led by the    Chairmen of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Nino Gvenetadze. Salome Goglidze, a lawyer with Young Barristers, attended the meeting on behalf of the organization. We consider it reasonable to note, that Young Barristers are invited to participate in the meetings of Scientific Advisory Council since April, 2015.
