Young Barristers will provide legal assistance for women, affected from June 13, 2015 Tbilisi flood. The main goal of the project, “Advocacy of the Flood-affected Women in Tbilisi”, is to provide free legal assistance for the affected women, by informing about type and amount of compensations provided by the Government on which they are entitled and by conducting effective communication with different governmental agencies and local self-government in order to optimize getting compensation for women as well as to reveal and solve the problems existing in this record.  

Nino Valikovi, a lawyer with Young Barristers and the Director of the project states, that at the end of the project we will be able to clearly evaluate gender’s role in the process of crisis management and level of realization of their legal rights by women. It is also noteworthy, that there is no basic research conducted in Georgia, which would analyze legal requirements of the people affected by disasters. In such circumstances, it is more important that due to the lack of legal representation or due to not enough representation women didn’t appear in an unequal situation, had opportunity to get relevant compensation and what is even more important, were entitled to equally dispose it.    

Young Barristers announces, that a group of interested women will be created within the frameworks of the project. The group will inform women in the area of the disaster about the assistance, which is provided by the organization and identify those who need legal assistance. After this, the lawyers of the project will provide free legal assistance for the project beneficiaries. Along with providing legal assistance at the place, the lawyers and the members of the interested group of women will conduct an inquiry, on the ground of which the organization will publish special report. It order to deliver information about the project to the beneficiaries, the organization will arrange a civil campaign as well.

The project is financed by “Women’s Fund in Georgia”. The project will be implemented within the frameworks of the program “Women for Tbilisi Relief” and will be over by the end of the year 2015. Nino Valikovi, Salome Goglidze and Tsabo Gugunashvili are working on the project on behalf of the Young Barristers.
